My artistic work often exists in the field of mass communication like internet or the staged mass media world of advertising. The possibility to manipulate digital images into new images, like 3D images, creates a new field in commercial usage but also forms the ground for my artistic work.
Digital images viewed on the internet are transformed into images where ‘missing information’ plays a major role. These images miss information, because of the low resolution.
Elements such as text and details will disappear.
This missing information, linked to the pixelized structure of these images calls for a new approach to experiencing such images.
An other point of interest to me is the network of roads viewed on Google Street View. Not Google Street View itself but the type of images it delivers. Google gives us the possibility to stage these kinds of images and creates a forced view on what we in general experience as being the truth. The washed out identity elements like faces, advertising, car plates but also sometimes buildings in Google Street View images produce a totally new experience of the photographic image.
The upcoming influence of digital techniques and internet force us to change the way we look at images and leads to my thesis subject:
‘A new reality of the photographic image’
